ALMATIS was faced with a need to install and operate a state-of-the-art, compact potable water treatment system for its Bauxite, Arkansas facility. EEMA is providing ALMATIS with design/build/own/operate/maintain services for the water treatment facility. Under the terms of the agreement, EEMA provides all of the process and disinfection systems, including controls, for the water treatment plant. The treatment plant is located on land owned by ALMATIS and leased to EEMA.

EEMA will own and operate the facility over a 15-year period after which ALMATIS has the option to buy back the facility for a nominal fee. EEMA conducted fast-track construction of the plant utilizing a skid-mounted modular membrane water treatment system. Facility startup proceeded under a tight time schedule to meet ALMATIS’s needs. The system was placed into full operation during August of 2001. EEMA will also operate and maintain the existing raw water transmission system.
